My First Ever Sculpture : Hope

Today I decided to learn a new skill, so here it is : My first ever sculpture, made of keramiplast clay, modelled by hand and some sculpting tools. Done in 2 hours.

I named it "Hope", for good things to come.

The Magic of Pen and Paper

Sometimes a lot of problems coming at a same time, more than I can handle.

Very stressful, very depressing, not knowing where to start...

At a time like this, I must step back, take a deep breath and took the whole complicated problems.

Then with the help of Pen and Paper, I start to write down all the problems I have to deal with.

Usually in the process of writing, I found solutions of the problems.

Then after all of the problems listed, I start to deal with the problems one by one.

It works everytime, reducing stress level, make the jobs done...

My Digital Art : Nenek (Old Woman)

This digital artwork is done with a WACOM Graphire2 using Photoshop CS3.

"Nenek" is picturing an old woman with her piggy bank broken, tells a story that an unfortunate people who cannot afford to pay for a healthcare service.

It is encouraging potential people to donate some of their money to help those of the unfortunate by building a complex of free healthcare in Indonesia.

This image is meant to be used as a photoshoot concept for Islamic Indonesian Free Health Clinic Fundraising Program by Dompet Dhuafa (www.dompetdhuafa.or.id).

It is a project of Amonra Advertising where I currently working (www.amonra.co.id).

The painting was done in 20 March 2009

Priority Management

In my work as an Art Director, I often work in tight deadlines, with a lot of various jobs must be done in the same deadline.

My strategy to accomplish this task is simply by setting up priorities, which one I should do first, what next, etc.

Priority Management works everytime, reducing stress level, and I can accomplish more task in a certain time limit.

Brochure Design Process - A Simple Practical Graphic Design Tutorial

Sometimes in the making of brochures, we as creative industry often have clients with lack of design process knowledge, so the clients often repeatedly changing the contents within.

Content changes are acceptable at some degree, but an extreme changes in the middle of design process for contents or amount of content can ruin a neat and beautifully designed brochure. This problem is definitely an inefficiency, psychologically can effect or even ruins graphic designer's mood and slowing down entire process of the project.

Considering that, this article is trying to build an Organized Brochure Design Work Flow, with hope to help increase efficiency of Creative Industry ~ Clients relationship, especially in the brochure design process.

A common brochure consists of 5 main elements :

Title / Tag Line (Client's Program, Products, or Promo)
Company Name and Logo
Content (Text based information : body copy, services, product details, etc.)
Images and Photos
Contact Information (Address, Phone Number, Fax, Website, Email)

Design process :

First of all and the most important is understanding the project brief, knowing the needs and purpose of the project.
Copy writing (ask for it from the client if possible), The amount of text help us to calculate how many panels the brochure will need. This helps to avoid the text become too small or overcrowded.
Put the text into the brochure's layout, in this stage we can decide where to put each subjects on the panels while planning which images and where to put them inside the layout.
Put images and photos in layout, arrange well.
Beautify the brochure with finishing touches according design tone on the project brief, unleash your creativity.
Voila ! It's done !
